FIC was established 14th March 1995, at that time under the name HIUC, Harbour Workers' International Training Center. In the beginning, the work was focused on training and development of the ports in Denmark and internationally.
HIUC was in charge of a series of education projects, including the creation of a harbor school in Romania and a capacity building of dock workers' unions in Mozambique.
In 1999 the name was changed from HIUC to FIC. The new name was Forum of International Center for Education. Since the name created a series of misunderstandings that FIC was a training center and not an organization, the "for education" was deleted, and the name is now; Forum for International Cooperation or simply FIC.
FIC worked now with a number of new project areas where the red thread was education, both within the port area and other sectors. Thus, FIC also conducted training projects within the energy industry, waste disposal industry, etc.
Today FIC works with projects that focus on education, employment and labour market relations in Denmark, Europe and Africa.
